The Barnacle Lover

Are this wistful old sailor’s dreams of a barnacle lover true, or merely an arcane fantasy projected onto his mundane reality?

And how many of us do the same as we wander through our own worlds? Like the barnacle lover, our minds project an imaginative veneer onto our everyday surroundings, and we live large portions of our lives in the imaginative worlds of art, books, films, music, religion, and our own dreams…

Without that, my time in the Oogazoid Library would be far less bearable. We all imaginatively edit the world around us, either consciously or subconsciously, to make it more meaningful, or palatable, or exciting, or, in short, just MORE. Art, religion, books, film, music – whatever the creation is, all are manifestations of this same desire to experience that something ‘more.’

Or that’s what I think, anyway.

Until next time, the Librarian.
